jgnat - That's what I was thinking. It's a pure JW fantasy that the UN was coming for them and religion as a whole. Not only would it be contrary to the charter and the nature of the organisation, but I would think that a good majority of states would vote against it. This might be a leftover from the days when the Soviet voting bloc was powerful and that they would instigate such a move in line with their official athiest state policies. I think that the only officially 'athiest' state left is North Korea. Even Cuba has allowed religion to come back.

JW businessman's email about the UN and false religion
by Las Malvinas son Argentinas ini was shown a hard copy of an email from a purported jw businessman who claimed he had contact with some un officials as part of his 'business'.
in conversation, he claimed that he blurted out and asked them when they were going to clamp down on religion as foretold in jw prophecy.
according to the account, the un official acted startled, and asked 'how do you know?'.

Fake money in contribution boxes
by enigma1863 insomeone posted a great idea i felt should have its own discussion thread.
i think it would be really cool if we could get people around the country or world to donate fake money in the contribution boxes that have thought provoking messages.
kinda like money tracts.

That would be well worth it just to be responsible for inevitable JW rumour mills and general paranoia about apostates infiltrating their assemblies.

Has anyone here seen anything like this? I was shown a hard copy of an email from a purported JW businessman who claimed he had contact with some UN officials as part of his 'business'. In conversation, he claimed that he blurted out and asked them when they were going to clamp down on religion as foretold in JW prophecy. According to the account, the UN official acted startled, and asked 'How do you know?'. The JW proceeds with his witness about Revelation, and the UN guy then confirmed that something like that was in the works at the UN. It sounded contrived and manipulated, almost as if the UN official could see where he was going as a JW and decided to have fun with him. I could see it, but this hapless buffoon couldn't.
That part of the prophecy always rang the wrong bells for me. I knew that JWs went on and on about false religion and 'Chistendom', but it always sounded like they had an axe to grind against the Roman Catholic Church amongst other mainstream Christian sects. With Europe and the West in general becoming ever more secular in outlook, with the obvious JW glee that church attendance was dropping, it made a lot of sense to a JW that was still in. But looking at the larger picture and that there are now somewhere around a billion Muslims (who would also fall under the umbrella of 'false religion' as anything alien to Brooklyn), I see no such move by the UN. In fact, there is now such a huge Islamic bloc in the UN that would make any such resolution dead on arrival, not to mention the inevitable violent backlash wherever there's a Muslim population.
Is the UN clamping down on false religion yet another JW prophecy that is on its way out?

Weird rumor I heard - JWs in Sweden
by sir82 ini heard this from a "friend of a friend of a friend...." at least 3 or 4 intermediate steps before i heard it.. so it is likely distorted, but i'll throw it out there in case someone in or near sweden can clarify it.. .
i heard that the wts branch in sweden instructed all jws there to "get rid of" all (empahasized all) of their printed literature, and rely exclusively on the content of jw.org for their literature.. .
that's the entire extent of it - i also got a few speculations about "what it might mean" (the society is expecting persecution!

JW rumours are worse than a knitting circle of grannies.

Two Witnesses stuck in a elevator or car without Chaperon. Would they fornicate? Yes/No
by Witness 007 inim amazed how going witnessing sisters who knew me for decades would sit only in the back seat on the way to the hall...to avoid any sex at the traffic lights!!!
and chaperons 1840's style are needed because two witnesses alone for 10 minutes would go at it like animals even after all the training watchtower articles and talks being jahs clean org.

By 'ruse', I mean that that there was this particular elder who would seek out young, un-baptised teens and arrange to study with them. Everyone thought this was a noble gesture and he gained a great reputation from it. It just so happened that the young ones he sought out also had sisters, and soon he had them brought along, with the brother unwittingly acting as the 'chaperone'.

They promote just like any multi-million dollar business would, with the caveat that they only promote from within. Successful candidates must show a long CV of field service, pioneering, missionary work, Gilead, Circuit/District Overseer, and finally, executive positions at Bethel or at a branch. Being fluent in a few languages is a plus. Must have several strong references, including at least one from within the Governing Body.

UK House of Commons Vote on Gay Marriage Later Today
by cofty inthe vote could go either way.. only 36% of the british public oppose gay marriage so there is no real political danger to the government.
david cameron is for it but the cabinet is split.. it will be a test for the tories.
are they still the reactionary dinosaurs we think they are?.

That's great news, for the West at least. The rest of the world needs to play some serious catch-up, and it isn't happening anytime soon. Gays continue to be persecuted violently all over Africa (particularly Uganda) and the Islamic world.

what ever happened to the king of the north and king of south?
by nowwhat? inafter the daniel book came out, nothing has ben said about it in at least 10 years.
did that prohecy get thrown out the window when the soviet union fell?.
-
Las Malvinas son Argentinas
That's exactly what happened. The time remaining was so short and the Soviet Union didn't look like it was going anywhere without a nuclear conflict, so at the time the prophecy must have made perfect sense both to the originator and to the people reading it. During the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991-1992, my mother was going on and on about how Armageddon was happening soon since the King of the North was dissolving. I think by the mid-Nineties when it was obvious that the world was moving on, they put that prophecy on the failed shelf in Brooklyn.

Sex usually happened after a ruse to get the other party alone in the same room at a time and place when it wasn't likely to be discovered. Usually under the guise of a mutual WT study.

The WT wanted a martyr to draw attention to their work in China, and they got a willing participant in Nancy Yuen. Though most of the blame rightfully goes to the organisation who trained and conditioned Mrs. Yuen to make such dangerous decisions, there is a huge part of me as a mother that feels that she chose an organisation over her family. She had an exit visa to Hong Kong (which had to be extremely difficult to get at the time) to join her family, but she chose to stay and had to have an inkling as to what would happen. She's not a hero or a martyr. Her children needed her as their mother, but she had other things in mind. She could have been in good standing with 'Jehovah' even if she went to Hong Kong and preached there. It was entirely unnecessary, and the Society should have had the foresight to wait on a more favourable political climate to emerge in China (as it eventually did) to push more strongly on their missionary efforts. I'd be curious as to what her children think of her and what she did now, and if they and her husband still are JWs.
